A Nation of Vibrant Times
Answering the question "what time is it in Mexico?" reveals a country of great diversity and complexity. Spanning four distinct time zones, Mexico's temporal landscape is as varied as its culture. Use the selector above to see the current time in each major region.
The Four Main Time Zones
Mexico's time zones generally move in harmony with those of the United States. From the Caribbean coast to the Pacific, these four zones create the rhythm of the nation:
- Southeast Zone (Quintana Roo): A static UTC-5, covering tourist hubs like Cancún.
- Central Zone (Zona Centro): The nation's most populous zone, including Mexico City.
- Pacific Zone (Zona Pacífico): Covers states like Sinaloa, Sonora, and Baja California Sur.
- Northwest Zone (Zona Noroeste): Includes Baja California, aligned with US Pacific Time.
The End of Daylight Saving Time
A major change occurred in late 2022 when Mexico **abolished Daylight Saving Time** for most of the country. With the exception of certain northern border municipalities, the clocks no longer "spring forward." Our clocks accurately reflect this new, more stable standard.
Border Region Exceptions
To facilitate commerce with the United States, several municipalities directly on the northern border are exempt from the new law and continue to observe Daylight Saving Time in sync with their U.S. neighbors. Our Northwest Zone clock (Tijuana) reflects this DST observance.
A Guide for Modern Travelers
Understanding this multi-zone system is crucial. A flight from Tijuana to Cancún can involve a three-hour time change. This interactive display is designed to provide immediate clarity for planning travel and communication across the beautiful and diverse expanse of Mexico.
